Articles by Kim Klein

Kim Klein is an internationally known fundraising consultant and author with over 25 years of experience helping grassroots non-profits raise money. She also is the editor of the Grassroots Fundraising Journal, a bimonthly magazine which posts fundraising articles on-line at www.grassrootsfundraising.org.

There are three articles on the website that your chapter might find useful.  They each offer concrete examples that will help you brainstorm fundraising ideas.  (On the website follow the "Fundraising Basics" link under "Fundraising How To" in the right hand column.)

In the first article, The Ten Most Important Things You Can Know about Fundraising, Klein takes you from the most elemental: "If you want money, you have to ask for it" to the most crucial: "There are four steps to fundraising - plan, plan, plan and work your plan."  In the time it takes to send an e-mail, you can read this article.

In Fifty Three Ways for Board Members to Raise $1,000, Klein stresses the important role of board members in fundraising, and offers 53 concrete examples.  Some are basic, and some are creative, but all get back to the point that if you don't ask, you don't get.

Finally, 8 Ways to Raise $2,500 in 10 Days is optimistic but realistic in the strategies it suggests.  This article will help you find opportunities you may have overlooked and it does so without forgetting that all good fundraisers require good planning.

Kim Klein is also the author of several highly-recommended books on fundraising.
