Open Scholarships The scholarship programs listed below are open to students in the general public. Program eligibility criteria and application materials are only available at the sources listed below. AXA Achievement Scholarship. AXA Foundation, in association with U.S. News & World Report, provides a $10,000 scholarship to one student from each state. Ten finalists earn an additional $15,000 scholarship, a computer and an internship with AXA. This scholarship is open to high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Applicants must be United States citizens or legal residents and must have demonstrated ambition and self-drive as evidenced by an outstanding achievement in an activity in school, the community, or the workplace. Applications are available starting August 15 and must be submitted by the December 15 deadline. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship. AXA provides up to ten $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors who live and attend high school in an AXA service area. This scholarship is open to students demonstrating ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college. Application deadline is February 15. Applications are also available by calling the local AXA branch at (206) 728-2400. Best Buy Scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by the Best Buy Children's Foundation and is open to high school seniors planning to attend an accredited U.S. college or vocational school in the fall of 2005. Up to three students in every U.S. Congressional District and the District of Columbia will receive a scholarship valued from $1,000 to $2,000. Scholarships are awarded to students who volunteer time to their communities, excel in academics, and participate in extra curricular activities. The application must be completed on-line; no paper applications will be accepted. The application and directions will be available on the Best Buy website by January. When the site is accessed, click the 'Community Relations' link on the bottom of the page. Next go to 'Best Buy Programs' to open the scholarship link. Application deadline is February 15. No applications will be accepted after this date. The Sallie Mae Fund Unmet Need Scholarship Program. This program provides scholarships to help meet last dollar needs of low-income students. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a family adjusted gross income of $30,000 or less, demonstrate unmet financial need of at least $1,000 after the financial aid award package has been determined and have a grade point average between 2.5 and 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Recipients must enroll at the undergraduate level on a full-time basis at an accredited Title IV eligible institution in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Awards range from $1,000 to $3,800. Applications are available in January. Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship. Sponsored by Simon Youth Foundation, this scholarship offers $1,000 to $2,000 awards and is open to high school seniors attending school and living in proximity of a Simon Property Mall or Community Center (Northgate Mall in Seattle is a Simon Property). Eligibility criteria and the application form are available October 1. Postmark deadline for submitting applications is December 1. The Target All-Around Scholarship. Sponsored by Target Corporation, this scholarship is open to high school seniors and undergraduates who are U.S. citizens age 24 or younger. The scholarship is based primarily on community volunteer service. The applications are available online in June. The deadline is November 1. The USA Funds Access to Education Scholarship. Sponsored by USA Funds, the scholarship is open to financially needy students who are high school seniors, undergraduates or graduate students. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents enrolled at an accredited institution and not in default on a student loan.
